My Profile

Ken House graduated from Adelphi University with a B.A. and M.A. degree in biology, testing and science education. Additional graduate studies include 60 hours beyond the Masters degree that include six National Science Foundation Grants at Long Beach State College (CA), Univ. Cal. (Berkeley), Indiana Univ. (Bloomington) and Adelphi.

I retired from teaching in 1992 after 31 years in which I taught AP Biology, NY State Regents Biology, microbiology, genetics and other science electives. I served as NY State Director of the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award Program of the NABT for ten years and an AP Biology Essay reader and item writer with the Educational Testing Service. I also served as an AP Biology Consultant with the Middle States Section of the College Board, for eight years.

During my teaching career, I received five teaching awards, including the 1985 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, and two awards from the National Association of Biology Teachers: an Outstanding Biology Teacher Award in 1983 and Honorary Membership in 1996.

I have participated on AOL's Homework Helper Biology Boards for 14 years until its demise in June 2005. but continued my site with over 7,000 biology references which receives around a million hits annually,

Married since 1961 with two adult daughters and four grandchildren, my wife Carol and I spend many hours working in our home gardens on Long Island. We are both online daily pursuing our many interests. My other interests and activities include reading, writing, digital photography, pets, trucks, Celtic lore along with relating outrageous anecdotes and humorous tall stories.'
